The Oxford Retreat is located 2 minutes away from both the Oxford Train Station and Oxford Bus Station. This makes our pub the perfect first stop when visiting the beautiful city of Oxford. Several historic and commercial stops are available within walking distance of our historic pub.

The Oxford Retreat is located alongside Castle Mill Stream. During the Middle Ages the wharf on Hythe Bridge Street was used to unload the wares which travelled along the stream. Today, a stroll along the canal reveals Oxford’s resident and visiting house-boaters as well as a peek into the gardens and sports grounds of one of the University’s colleges.

A visit to Oxford would be incomplete without a visit to at least one of the University of Oxford’s 38 colleges. Arguably one of the most striking is Worcester College which backs onto Castle Mill Stream. With rolling lawns and striking architecture, the college is a must-see and is 2 minutes from our beautiful pub.

Slightly further along and up Beaumont Street will take you to The Ashmolean: the University of Oxford’s museum of art and archaeology, founded in 1683.

Crossing over the canal to Park End Street takes us to our sister-venue: The Lighthouse with views of the historic Oxford Castle and Prison. A walk past the Oxford Castle and Prison will take you to Oxford’s newest retail and leisure centre: The Westgate.
